Ashley Solenberger pulls from a wide variety of experiences to develop his coaching philosophy. He grew up swimming, and playing soccer and basketball. As an adult he teaches elementary PE and has coached soccer at the high school level. Athletically, he has competed in triathlons from the sprint to Ironman distance often placing in the top 10 overall. Over the last 8 years, he has focused mostly on running again competing at a variety of distances from the mile to the marathon. He enjoys a speed session much more than a long run but appreciates the benefits of both.
Brenda Hodge is the founder and CEO of RUN717. She currently coaches over 40 adult runners, but misses the fun and energy of working with the youth. She hopes this program will help support local school programs and encourage athletes to be lifelong runners.
Assistant Coach Jay McMillan is a parent of a Hempfield runner and has 35 years of running experience. Jay is active in the athletic community and has experience coaching both soccer and cross country, including several week long camps. Jay believes the most important thing is instilling a love of running as it is a gift that will last a child a lifetime!
Assistant Coach Mark Oles is a lifelong runner. He began his racing career since age 6 and was captain of both cross country and track during his senior year of high school. Although running took a back seat to academics in college, he returned to serious training after finding a group of local runners at the F&M track. When his kids came along, he started volunteering to coach their soccer, basketball, and now, cross country and track teams. Mark’s favorite thing about coaching is seeing a spark for a sport grow and blossom in to a passion. Coach Jay and Coach Mark have a long running bet about who can talk more.
All coaches have required clearances to work with youth.
